Meeting Overview
Half Moon Bay
|
May 2025
The California Coastal Commission convened in Half Moon Bay from May 7–9, addressing several high-profile coastal policy issues. The Commission certified Pacifica’s Local Coastal Program update, establishing “Special Shoreline Resiliency Areas” that allow neighborhood-scale armoring for up to 20 years, despite concerns about long-term beach loss and legal consistency. Commissioners also approved a final one-year extension for Long Beach’s “Big Bang on the Bay” fireworks display, with a requirement to transition to a drone show by 2026 to reduce environmental harm. Additional items included public access improvements, habitat restoration, and development permits across the state’s coastline.
